These are a few of my FAVORITE things!

5.01.2013

Ok favorites {You, yes you}

It's May! One of my favorite months.
It's the month we have waited for after enduring April showers/ snow storms.
The birds are finally chirping, the trees are starting to bloom, and there appears to be life around the city.

As I have mentioned before, my family was big into traditions growing up.
We even celebrated May Day in our house. We would make May Day baskets {paper fortune tellers turned upside down} fill them with candy and place them on our neighbor's and friend's porches.
It was fun thinking that they would come home to a surprise left by an anonymous giver.
Nothing special, nothing fancy, but a fun treat to celebrate the coming of summer.

Since none of my readers are even remotely close to me on this May Day, I'm doing something else to thank each of you for reading the blog and inspiring me to keep it going.

I'm sure most of you know, and have watched an episode of "Oprah's Favorite Things".
Oh my gosh I would die to be one of the lucky audience members that day.
I would try and watch it every year, crying {yes, tears of jealous happiness} with the audience as Oprah revealed they would all be receiving only the best new appliances, Martha Stewart cookware and some even received CARS...yes a car!
I also watched because their reactions were always priceless!

As much as I would love to give each and everyone of my readers a car....that's just not going to happen and as Kalyn would say "aint nobody got time fo' that!"

But...I do want to let you know that each week in May, I will be giving away one of my favorite things to one lucky reader!
No, this won't be a giveaway with the rafflecopter, and this won't be promoting my blog much at all.
It's a thank you, to the my loyal readers who give me the courage to write about the silly things that go on in my head.

Giveaway will open on Monday of each week, and will close with winner announced on Friday. Kapeesh?'

{This week's is starting on Wednesday because it's the 1st!}

Here's the skinny on how things will work:

  • Comment// The Monday post will include a question/topic for readers to mull over and then comment back on the Monday post.
  • Leave your e-mail address// In order to redeem your prize, you must leave an e-mail address/blog http where I can find your contact details.
  • Random.org// Each winner will be chosen at random using Random.org As much as I would love to pick my "favorite" entry...I just won't be able to do that! {As I said earlier, you're all my favorites!}
  • Sequence// Random.com will generate a completely random number. The number selected will then correspond with the comment written. Ex: if the number 7 is picked, and you're the 7th person to comment...you win!
Sound easy? Please contact me if I can clarify any of the "rules". If at anytime this gets unruly or out of hand {not imagining it to} then I have the right to terminate further prizes given during the month of may.

Phew, now that we have all of the technical business out of the way...let's talk about my first favorite thing to be gifted this week!

Casey's Favorite Things: Week #1

Remember this little star from my Weekend Shenanigans post?

It is called an air plant. Never heard of an air plant? Well get ready to be hooked!

Air plants grow without soil, only need to be watered every week {or whenever I can remember}, and are virtually indestructible!
They are a great modern touch to an indoor plant and they are uber low maintenance.
Cute, quirky, and a great story starter...what more could you want?

This is why the air plant makes it to my Favorite things list
I recently gave one to Amanda in her "go-green cara box" and she says she loves it!

I am also including a set of my personalized stationary. It's always fun to receive snail mail and why not share the love? I'm a huge fan of written letters, and even more excited when I get to send the love with my own stationary.

I also sent these beauts to Amanda in her cara box.
Your's will include a set of five cards {blank on the inside},with five envelopes, all in your favorite color.

Here's the question you MUST answer in the comments to be included in the giveaway.

// What has been the most rewarding experience in your life? //

I wish you luck, and may the odds be ever in your favor. {Sorry, I had to!}

      I love the idea of an air plant. I do not have a green thumb so anything easy is good!

  2. I refuse to watch Oprah give away stuff. It makes me mad. Because I deserve a new car. And a camera. And whatever else junk she's giving out that NOBODY really needs.

    I will go in the corner and pout now.

  4. The most rewarding experience of my life would have to be living aboard a sailboat for three weeks. I jumped on a 'study abroad' trip and moved onto an 88 ft boat in the BVIs to sail around with 21 strangers. :) It was the best thing I've ever done.

    If you chat with Oprah, tell her I would just like my student loans paid off... my car runs fine. ;)

  7. I love that you're doing this! How awesome! As far as the most rewarding experience - dog rescue. Especially working with shelter animals and fostering puppy mill dogs. Seeing the change in the dogs as you give them a "normal" life is amazing. "Saving one dog may not change the world, but it changes the world for that one dog"

  8. My most rewarding experience would have to be... being with a patient and his wife as they got the news he was getting a liver transplant after a very intense and lengthy struggle with his health! It was more amazing than I can put into words! Makes being a nurse more than worth it :)

    1. My most (or at least top 5) rewarding experience would have to be running a vacation bible school on a mission trip at a church in Los Fresnos, Texas! I have always loved being around children and I am pursuing a teaching career as a result. Being with the children in Los Fresnos for 4 days was an incredible experience because the second they walked in the door, they were stuck to your hip and just wanted to love on you. Their faces always lit up at the mention of Jesus or God and they were all about praising Him. Getting to see children, ranging from ages 2-10, be excited about The Lord is a truly rewarding experience that I would not trade for the world.
