Behind the Scenes

As Joe and I approach our first wedding anniversary (November 3rd), wedding will basically dominate the blog this week. Hope you all don't mind! I absolutely cannot believe it has been an entire year since the wedding.
It seriously feels like just last weekend I was walking down the aisle to the man of my dreams!

If you're new to these parts, everything Aslan Wedding can be found in the "Behind the Scenes" series.
These posts feature some of the candid and more intimate moments of our wedding, and many stories that just can't be left untold.

This episode of "Behind the Scenes" features Girls Just Wanna Have Fun!

Meet the gals of my bridal party. These 5 women have been more than an integral part of my life. They have all been there through the up's an down's and have also been such important mentors in my life. I wouldn't be here today without the support of the amazing gals!

Cati-Maid of honor and younger sister. Ever since we were young we have been planning each other's weddings. I couldn't imagine life without this spunky, optimistic, loving best friend of mine. Even though she is younger, I look up to her in more ways than one!

Daryl- Best friends and inseparable since second grade, Daryl has been my brick wall of support the past 16 years. Through thick and thin we have been each other's constants for as long as I can remember. Even though we have spent the past 6 years apart from one another, the friendship hasn't changed an ounce.

April- My freshman "pot-luck" roommate turned best friend. When we met we were two completely different people, and together we have both achieved and turned into the women we always hoped we could become. There isn't a day that goes by that I don't talk to my "boo boo" and I am so so thankful we became forever roommates so long ago. Couldn't live without this girl!

Ali- My partner in crime and second half. The sweetest person you have ever met, with a heart of gold. As roommates and partners in crime during nursing school, this girl was my strength and backbone. We were able to get through nursing school together and I just know we are secret sisters separated at birth.

Amanda- My pledge sister and co-lover of all things sports. A loyal friend, always keeping you in mind. College would have never been the same without our "peanut".  Love this girl's heart and her determination. College roommates and an important part of our AAAC.

Stay tuned for all things wedding this week!

Beautiful Lengths

Yesterday I did a first in my life...I cut off 11 inches of hair that had been so tediously grown over the past year and then some.
Talk about exhilarating and nerve wracking all at the same time. There was no turning back after those first swift cuts.

At work, there have been more and more women coming through our doors and being diagnosed with cancer. It breaks my heart to see their spirits crushed, but each and every one chooses to pull up those proverbial big girl pants and fight. Fight for their lives on a daily basis. Although I'm not always able to tell a patient that I know first hand what they are going through, I can tell them that I support and will fight with them 100%.

How are the ways I support these amazing women? I sit at their bedside and just simply listen, I offer a hand to hold during painful procedures and most of all I let them know they have a support system. All of these things are nothing tangible that I can actually give to them. That is where donation just hit my heart. By donating my hair, I could physically help a woman who was battling for her life.

Pantene "Beautiful Lengths" is the donation program I chose to use because it specifically targets women battling cancer. Pantene has already donated over 24,000 wigs to the American Cancer Society and mine will help make one more.
It will help one more woman hopefully feel more beautiful in her skin.

To the woman who receives my hair in her wig. I'm rooting for you. Life isn't easy right now, but the world wants to see you smile. You're strong, courageous but most of all you are beautiful. Know that others are rooting for you, even if you don't know them.

Pardon my absence, but the Aslan abode has been taken over by a testosterone tornado!
The past two weekends we have had Joe's dad, brothers and best man in town, So. Much. Fun. But now I'm trying to recoup and clean this messy house! 5 guys and 1 girl sharing ONE bathroom...this could take a while.
As for me? You can find me back on the shopping, nail painting, hair doing grind.
But for now, enjoy these awesome pictures of great times spent with these awesome men!

Fall has brought (back) out my inner photographer again. I hope I always find the Fall season this novel and beautiful.
I feel like it changes in front of my eyes and I'll be sad the day it leaves.

Are you living your safe dream?

Oh how I wish I was of the spontaneous breed. I wish I could throw all inhibitions into the wind and really reach for my dreams....
What you say, I'm not living my dream?!?!

Well I'm living my "Safe Dream".
I've always wanted to be a nurse but there is just something nagging in my heart saying my creative mind was built for more.
I love bringing joy into peoples lives, and I love when the fruits of my labor are able to bless others.
There are days when I just know deep in my heart that I'm meant to become a creative entrepreneur that I've always dreamed of...but then my brain tells me, it probably wouldn't be "safe".
It could also be that work has been down right rotten lately, and I'm slightly over it....but that's a lot of whining that no one needs to be tortured with.

I always say, I would shoot for my "actual dream" if I only:
had the money
had the time
could afford insurance
knew it would become a success

But, as we all know, we will never have enough money, time or guarantee that anything in this life will turn out as a success and that's just a little winding road called life.
So as I stumble into this world of entrepreneurship I'm excited (to start slow)  to hopefully grow where I could then have nursing as a side job and be able to fully enjoy spending time in healthcare again. But since that's multiple years down the road, I hope you'll stick around to see what I have in store.

Are you living your safe dream?

The time I had 50 apples in my refrigerator

As you may, or may not know, my parents were in town from Texas this week. It was amazing and I wish they were still here! I have been waiting for them to come up here and it was the perfect week. More in depth details to come.

Our most favorite experience this weekend was apple picking. None of us had ever been, and I think we looked like kids on Christmas morning. Way more excited than the locals, that's for sure.
We ended up picking 50...yes you read that right... 50 apples.

Now what the heck is a gal to do with 50 apples? This is where I need your help! What is your favorite apple recipe? Be sure to share and you may see it up on the blog soon.

Falling for Fall

I am literally jumping up and down with excitement because in just a few short hours my parents will be here for the first time visiting. And what better time than Fall?
My mom and I share an affinity for the outdoors and nature, so I cannot wait to hear how much she loves it!
So on that note, I'm leaving you with my "Fall Bucket List" for this year.
Many of these things we have never done and I'm excited to partake in my first actual Fall.

What is on your Fall bucket list?
