Cheers not Jeers

11.27.2013

Can you believe it's already Wednesday? Welcome back to the second installment of Cheers not Jeers

As bloggers, more importantly as women, it is often easy to get caught up in the strains and drains of life. Lets face it, life can just flat out SUCK at times. And I don't know about you, but I don't know anyone who doesn't love a sweet compliment or a simple thumbs up thrown their way. As motivation to spur a little female bonding around the "interwebs" I introduce to you this weekly link up "Cheers not Jeers"
This is your chance to build up some of your favorite women and showcase their talent through your blog and spread a little sisterly love.
How it works:
  • Every Wednesday join in the link up by including "Cheers" about your favorite bloggers. These are bloggers who spur your creativity, touch your heart, or keep you sane laughing.
  • Post a small shout out or devoted post to your blogger loves, creating more community between each other, while posting a link to their blog in your post so others many be inspired.
  • Grab the button below to include in your post
  • After linking up, find a new face, visit a new blog, introduce yourself and send them a "cheer"
Highly Encouraged:
There are no specific "rules" about following certain individuals in the link up, but just strongly encouraging women to seek out one another and offering praise instead of the negativity we can often see floating around the world wide web. I will personally visit each blog in the link up to see what any awesome impact this is making.

I loved getting to read all of the posts from last week. It made my heart happy to see the positive vibes floating from blog to blog. I also loved the different formats people were using to post their Cheers. Can't wait to read what you post this week.
This week I want to focus on some bloggers who have really captured my heart with their sincerity and zest for life. Definitely a breath of fresh air!

Cheers not Jeers Episode 2

I have recently been stalking reading every single post of Amber's. She puts such heartfelt emotion into her posts, and she really has a heart of gold. She takes life's tribulations and turns them in to positive lesson...something we could all do a little of. Her story is inspiring and she has THE coolest tattoo with THE coolest story...really you must check it out.

Gayle is a blogger that I'm sure many of you ay be familiar with. I have always randomly stopped by her sweet blog, but I have just now become an avid reader. She has gone through some of the most tough of times, but yet always has such a positive outlook on life. Her most recent post about fitting in really hit home for me.

Sarah is the brains behind The Not Quite Military Wife. She has recently moved her sweet family to England...can you even imagine?!? I think 1700 miles is a lot, but overseas with a baby...she definitely has guts. It is such a joy to see how well she is already adapting and what a great attitude she has had throughout the whole move. I definitely admire her strength.

Be sure and grab the button below to share in your post, and please don't forget to visit at least one new blogger and stop by and give them a "Cheer"

It really is ok...

11.25.2013

It really is ok that:

I still feel like a "newb" at this whole winter thing. I can't seem to figure out the whole dress in a parka but when you step inside you become a hot sweaty mess and no I don't want my coat sitting in the germ filled cart. You read that all in one breath right?

It's ok that I still will just stop and think...whoa I LIVE in New York. My car has a New York licensee plate. I LIVE in New York...more reasons I'm still a "newb"

I have a different scent/scentsy/candle burning in each room...fall scent overload.

I strongly dislike the new iPhone update...yes I know, I'm beyond the times at this point.

It's ok that I think its wrong to have "Black Friday" start at 6pm Thursday...right? Madness. But once again we shall be participating...we actually need a new TV this year.

It's ok to have bad days at work, but not ok to dwell on them...why can't I listen to my own advice?

And it's really ok that all of this came to me while walking in the Walmart parking lot.

Are you ready for Wednesday? Cheers not Jeers is on for round two!

Dear Joe

11.19.2013

The first year of marriage is supposed to be hard, filled with difficulties and not for the faint at heart...
While there were some days we had to figure out this whole living together thing, it has been my favorite year of our 5 year relationship thus far. It has become a different bond, one of need to survive instead of just one that you enjoy. Does this make sense?
This may sound silly but I loved picking out Joe's card for our first anniversary. It made things much more real, and I thought I would share.

For my husband with love on our anniversary,

Marriage is made up of thousands of little moments, and I wish I could say
I've been a perfectly wonderful wife for every one of them, but I haven't of course.
What I want you to know, though, especially on our anniversary,
is that I love you as much today as on the day we were married, maybe even more.
You still make me laugh and you're still the one I want to tell my latest stories to.
You're still the one I want to come home to, and in fact you are my home.
I may not always show it, but in my best moments I know you're the perfect man for me.

All my love,
Casey

May I introduce to you, Cheers not Jeers

11.18.2013

I am excited to announce a new link up opportunity coming to you this upcoming holiday season. I have enjoyed seeing all of my favorite bloggers posting this month about things they are thankful for in their lives. It's a great way to remember all the positives when it often may be easier to focus on the negatives.

As bloggers, more importantly as women, it is often easy to get caught up into the strains and drains of life. Lets face it, life can just flat out SUCK at times. And I don't know about you, but I don't know anyone who doesn't love a sweet compliment or a simple thumbs up thrown their way. As motivation to spur a little female bonding around the "interwebs" I introduce to you this weekly Wednesday link up "Cheers not Jeers"

Staring this Wednesday you will have the opportunity to showcase some of your favorite and most inspirational bloggers that you rely on for their creativity and motivational support.

Here's the great part, this isn't something that has to be a novel gushing about your favorite bloggers, although its never discouraged, this is just an opportunity to give a shout out to someone who has brightened your day and someone you want to showcase just because.

How does it work?
  • As a weekly linkup, posts would be centered around your favorite bloggers/reads/posts/pictures of the week.
  • Post a small shout out or devoted post to your blogger loves, creating more community between each other, while posting a link to their blog in your post so others many be inspired.
  • When you join the link up you are strongly encouraged to visit a new person from the link up, head to their blog and introduce themselves and leave them a "cheer".

Highly Encouraged:
There are no specific "rules" about following certain individuals in the link up, but just strongly encouraging women to seek out one another and offering praise instead of the negativity we can often see floating around the world wide web. I will personally be visiting each blog in the link up to see what any awesome impact this is making.

Be sure to check back in on Wednesday for the Cheers not Jeers Premiere.
I can't wait to see positivity go viral. Go on, you know you want to!

Anniversary Adventure: Watkins Glen State Park

11.13.2013

On our way back to Albany, we stopped by to see Watkins Glen State Park. It was rainy and cold, but even under the conditions it was beautiful. It was only the 2358976th time I had kicked myself for forgetting the DSLR. We were also thankful for the weather because it was deserted and a perfect romantic adventure for two.

The biggest attraction to the State Park is the 400 foot Gorge carved into the mountains by the once small Glen Creek. Over time this tiny creek has expanded into 19 waterfalls surrounded by soft shale rock and carved plateaus.

The hike was a little over 1.5 miles but filled with hours of beautiful scenery. We even found "Lovers Lane" which gave a high rise view of the gorge. All the beauty that surrounded us reminded us to take time to enjoy God's creations...especially marriage.

Anniversary Adventure: Corning Glass Museum

11.11.2013

Continuing with our  Anniversary getaway, on Sunday we visited the Corning Museum of glass. Corning glass is something I sure we all own; you know? Corning ware. Well it's made in Corning New York. Joe was especially excited about visiting because most chemistry glassware is made of only the finest Corning glass. Pretty awesome.
Joe had also researched the museum and found that we could make our own Corning glass work of art. So much fun!

The final products are pretty awesome. They had to cool in a kiln overnight and then they were express mailed to us. I'll be sure and share a picture of them ASAP. Even if you think museums are not the place for you, skip the museum and just make your own glass.
It was a blast that we wanted to continue to do over and over again.

After all of our hard work, we thought it was only fitting to celebrate with a classic bloody mary and brunch. YUM! Cheers to 1 year married!

Anniversary Adventure: Wine & More Wine

11.06.2013

Wow, what an amazing anniversary weekend we had in Western, NY.
We packed up the car early Saturday morning and made the 4 hour trek west to New York's wine country, also known as the Finger Lakes.

Who would have known that Upstate New York could provide great growing conditions for popular wines? Joe and I chose to visit wineries on the South West side of Seneca Lake. During our wine filled day we were only able to visit 4 of the 35 wineries...talk about a lot of wine!

Our first stop was Wagner's Vineyard, home of the famous "Niagara" white wine made from the ever so sweet Niagara grapes. These are grapes that use cold temperatures to ferment their extra residual sugars. This was a great first winery to start with, but the opposite of intimate. There were droves of tipsy individuals costume clad. We think the reason it was so packed was because it was incredibly cheap for lots of wine! $4 for 8 different wine tastings...awesome, but it made some individuals motives more clear. Yeah, yeah, call us wine snobs.

Our second stop on the wine trail was the Penguin Bay Winery. Slightly more intimate winery with gracious pours. Here, Joe and I found a wine we just had to have two bottles of. The 2012 Pinot Grigio was our favorite and reminded us of our favorite wine from our Bahamian honeymoon.

Third Stop was to Chateau LaFayette Reneau which by far has the most spectacular view and according to Joe, Cab Sav. I'm more a white wine girl, so I leave the bold red's to the Mr. There was plenty of room in this winery and the staff was friendly and didn't rush the tasting.

Fourth, and favorite winery was Atwater Estate Vineyards. Their Stone Bridge White house wine was a perfect wine that could be taken to any wine enthusiast for a house warming gift. Their prices were great, and the staff has a plethora of knowledge, enough to keep Joe's chemist brain swirling. Now that's a lot of knowledge! They even offered a hot mulled cider at the end of the tasting and I fell in love. Save the best for last right?

Check out this beauty...we were just driving along minding our own business and BAM out of nowhere this beautiful waterfall is just smack dab on the side of the highway...is this real life? Beautiful...so beautiful I made Joe pull over so I could hop out and snag a less than professional iPhone pic. Yes, I sadly forgot my camera so all pictures are compliments of my outdated iPhone camera. Thanks for bearing with us.

Stay tuned for more anniversary weekend fun!
