Why I ugly cried on Christmas

12.30.2013

Yes it's true…I ugly cried on Christmas.
It was a bittersweet/happy/sad/Joe knows how to make me cry with presents type of cry.

Let's back up for a second. As I believe I have mentioned in the past, Joe is a phenomenal gift giver. Buttttt, his main goal is to ALWAYS see me cry. Which I think is funny.
Most guys may take the "there, there" approach…but Joe embraces it all. And no, he doesn't just pat me on the head.

Well ladies and gents, he got this gal to ugly cry this Christmas and I know he was pleased.

As I have rambled multiple times over, this Christmas was just the two of us, which went really well. Joe knew how nervous I was about spending my first Christmas away from home and capitalized on it. Underneath the tree was a case of my favorite wine (just an added bonus), but in the midst of the wine bottles there were cards from all of my family members inside of the box. Each card was addressed to me with everyone's personal touch and handwriting. Some where handmade, others were 100% hand selected by their author which meant so much.

The last card I opened was from my dad and immediately start bawling. This card was perfect and said so much. I have a true soft spot for my Daddy in my heart. Don't get me wrong, my Mom is my best friend, but I have always been a Daddy's girl. Seeing his handwriting on a day I was missing him and my family the most was just simply overwhelming. It was as close to being together as possible and I am so thankful for a silly husband who not only thrives on getting the most amazing gifts, but knows just how to warm my heart.

So my favorite gift this Christmas was simply my family's handwriting. It meant the world to me!
What was your favorite gift?

A Christmas Poem from our family to yours

12.26.2013

This year was quiet, just the two of us.
Not grand production, nothing close to a fuss.
We soaked in the feelings of Christmas' true meaning,
And sat by the tree, sparkling lights gleaming.

Often the truth of Christmas becomes misplaced
Jesus' birth, presents and Santa have become interlaced
A Son was born for the one purpose to save you and me,
He is who we reflected on while sitting by the tree.

Our Christmas was so small and quaint,
It burned a desire in our hearts to attempt to emulate a saint.
The quietness helped us to remember that cold and starry night,
And reminded us to never let His holiness out of our sight.

We hope you enjoyed your Christmas and truly see the reason for the season.
Do know the true meaning of Christmas? If not,
I urge you to shoot me an e-mail and I'd love to tell you all about the magic of this season.
Gives me chills just thinking of it.

With His love,

Have you noticed? A challenge for you this holiday season

12.23.2013

Have you noticed

In a long line of traffic people are more courteous about letting others in?
That people are spreading more cheer?
People going out of their way to do something for another in need?
An overall sense of joy?

This Christmas is one that is very different for Joe and I, and I'm thankful for it.
It has allowed me to be more observant of the true feelings as well as reflect on the true meaning of Christmas. What an amazing time…as I think of all these warm feelings, I can't help but question the days that follow the "big day".

Will people continue to go about their busy lives, choosing to cut another off in traffic?
Will life just go back to being "less cheerful"?
Will others try to go out of their way to help someone in need if it's not during the holidays?
What about that peace and joy? Will it fade away too?

Eventually it all may fade until next holiday season, BUT I challenge you to seek out the joy, peace and continue with your servant hearted deeds. You can still get those good feelings. Keep that in mind and most of all enjoy your loved ones and reflect on the true meaning of CHRISTmas.

Merry Christmas,
P.S. I participated in a wonderful Christmas ornament exchange with Jenny from Bad Luck Jenn and Jennifer from Bubbly and Buttercream. My partners were the lovely Jennifer herself and another Jenn who I loved getting to know! Lots of Jen's huh? I got the sweetest photo frame snowmen that I can't wait to fill with pictures from our first year in New York. Thanks Jenn!

12.18.2013

Hello sweet friends, I extend my sincere apologizes for not being here bright and early this morning…I promise you this won't happen again. But there is 15inches around these parts and we're trying to figure out how to navigate and keep life going in the midst of it all.

This 5th episode of Cheers not Jeers is dedicated to my favorite Christmas post this week.

As bloggers, more importantly as women, it is often easy to get caught up in the strains and drains of life. Lets face it, life can just flat out SUCK at times. And I don't know about you, but I don't know anyone who doesn't love a sweet compliment or a simple thumbs up thrown their way. As motivation to spur a little female bonding around the "interwebs" I introduce to you this weekly link up "Cheers not Jeers"
This is your chance to build up some of your favorite women and showcase their talent through your blog and spread a little sisterly love.
How it works:
  • Every Wednesday join in the link up by including "Cheers" about your favorite bloggers. These are bloggers who spur your creativity, touch your heart, or keep you sane laughing.
  • Post a small shout out or devoted post to your blogger loves, creating more community between each other, while posting a link to their blog in your post so others many be inspired.
  • Grab the button below to include in your post
  • After linking up, find a new face, visit a new blog, introduce yourself and send them a "cheer"
Highly Encouraged:
There are no specific "rules" about following certain individuals in the link up, but just strongly encouraging women to seek out one another and offering praise instead of the negativity we can often see floating around the world wide web. I will personally visit each blog in the link up to see what any awesome impact this is making.

Cheers not Jeers Episode 5

This past week I have been reflecting on the meaning of Christmas and the true reason why we celebrate and why in fact we give gifts, and the meaning behind them. Jessica from Proverbs Living shared an AMAZING post on what she is "giving" her husband this Christmas…no it's not something you can buy on the shelves at the store, but one you can probably already find in your home this Christmas season. Intrigued? Please go by and check out her sweet post, and my personal favorite from this week.

Who are you giving your Cheers not Jeers to this week?
Thank you for hanging in there with me today!

Cheers not Jeers Episode Four

Forever Newly Wedded

Miss Karla over at Forever Newly Wedded has brought forward an amazing challenge for us this week. As the end of this week marks the anniversary of the Sandy Hook Tragedy, Karla is truly embracing the spirit of her hometown and not letting evil prevail. This tragedy already one year ago hit Karla's family right at home, and is still one that drives her to count her blessings daily.

How easily do we take life for granted, and we are instantly reminded that our lives can be taken from us or our loved ones in an instant. This week I urge you to count your blessings and tell your loved ones truly how much they mean to you…you may not have another day. Could you imagine? Thank you to Karla for sharing her strength and positivity this week.
We love you Karla!

Who will be your Cheers not Jeers this week? Can't wait to read!

Oh there's no place like home for the holidays

12.09.2013

I. Am. So. Excited.
This Wednesday I will be home in Texas seeing family, friends and celebrating Christmas. I am so thankful to be able to go home for "Christmas" this year. I leave Wednesday, but have no fear, Cheers not jeers will still be here!

Today I wanted to share with you a few pictures of a Christmas card/ first year anniversary (late) photo shoot. My sweet friend helped us out, and boy did she do great.

Hope you enjoy!

And one to make you giggle!

From our family to yours,

Life Lately Vlog Style

12.06.2013

So this week I decided to participate in Vlog like a boss hoss BOSS…I think I said both in my vlog, don't mind me.
Always Ashten is the brains behind this Friday fancy and I thought I'd give 'er a whirl.
Please no "boos" I didn't promise you it was Oscar worthy.

Happy Friday…and ENJOY!

With love,

Saying yes when life becomes "deep"

12.05.2013

So I've had this post on my heart for a while, and I think I have found the perfect outlet to transition my thoughts into actual beliefs. Amber from Mr. Thomas and Me is starting a surge around the WWW and encouraging women to "Say Yes". The #sayyesproject is about coming out of your comfort zone and saying YES to something that you may attempt to avoid otherwise.

So do you remember when I posted about a paralyzing fear of mine when it comes to becoming a parent one day? Well I have a feeling God has been working on my heart…no this is not a pregnancy announcement!! YIKES!

Bit of background to this story. I was raised in a wonderful Christian home filled with morals and principals that were founded on a solid foundation. We didn't talk much of God, but he was the outline for our lives. We learned Bible stories on Sunday mornings, but as soon as we were headed out the church doors for CiCi's pizza there was no longer a desire for Jesus following me to the local pizza joint. Yes, I understand that Children are simple minded creatures but are innocent with child like faith…but I have personally seen how Jesus can stay active and burning in a child's heart and it truly is awe inspiring.

As few months ago I chose to "Say Yes" to volunteering with my Church's Children's Program. I have always loved kiddos, just terrified to have my own, I digress. Terra Kids is the name of our program and is led by the most amazing woman who has nothing, and I mean nothing but joy in her heart for Jesus.

Sundays I have the privilege of working with 4 and 5 year olds and teaching them the truth of the Bible. What I never would have expected is that these tiny minds would continuously teach me about child like faith as well as meaning behind Bible stories. These precious children know Jesus, and I mean KNOW. They put full faith that he loves them, and think it's silly that other people question his love for them.

Now how does this relate to my paralyzing fear of babies? As I was driving home after teaching one Sunday the sudden thought popped into my head, I can't wait to be the parent that instills the love of Jesus into a child's heart. I can't wait to witness His grace work in the life of something I made!
I immediately got chills and had an overwhelming feeling of peace. This has never been a thought of mine. My thoughts and feelings only ever included fear. God had chipped away at my cold heart and I know he promises to train me as a teacher as HE raises my children.

The most amazing thing to me is that he taught me this beauty through the eyes and minds of 4 and 5 year olds. How often to we get wrapped up in this adult life when we really need to fall back into our child like faith.

By "Saying Yes" to volunteering, I may one day say yes to becoming a parent. No time soon, but I know He will make my heart ready one day. It also doesn't help that the holidays can really give one baby fever once they have this earth shattering revelation.

Mr. Thomas and Me

Thanks for stopping by,

If you're thankful and you know it, spread the love

This week I wanted to showcase bloggers who I would do just about anything to meet!

Laura from Mrs Laura Beth is truly my gal! I just know that if we lived closer this whole BBF (blogger best friend) deal would be sealed! Our snapchats can get a little silly, but I know she is a great wife, Auntie and great friend. She has always been one of my biggest supporters and she is someone who is genuine, you know those people who would literally give you the shirt off their back. Thankful for her even if she is 1500 miles away. Run on over and check out her awesome cyber Monday advertising deals. You won't regret it!

So I've already met this gal but she is the bee's knees…Adrianna from Dog Hair is an Accessory is really one of my favorite people. She is also a genuine gal who tells you like it is and that's exactly what I love in a friend! She is loyal, loves wine and has the sweetest pup Lil…seriously what's not to like?
She just got a huge job promotion at work and I'm uber excited for her. She gets to showcase her talents AND gets paid for it. Smart woman. Make sure to stop by, check out Lil and enter her Golden giveaway. Yes she's giving away amazing things for HER birthday. Such a catch right?

Rachel from Postcards from Rachel is someone I would love to meet. She has literally lived all over the country and is great at it. It's not easy to just pick up and move your entire life just as she has done multiple times. She is strong, courageous, and has quite the following. She just moved to Boston which is a hop and a skip East so I'm thinking something should be in the works. She also has amazing photography tips and has been doing a lot of great sessions lately.

Can't wait to read your cheers this week! And don't forget you could be the winner winner chicken dinner just by linking up this week!

How do we measure a year?

12.02.2013

I don't know about you, but I can't believe its been a year since we started this adventure!
I want to thank everyone who has stuck with us through the laughs, tears and cheers!

Today I wanted to recap some of my favorite posts from this past year:

_________________________________________________________________________________
First blog post ever where I can feel the anxiety in my words but enjoy the promise that was in the making. I can't believe how far we have come since that first post!

How about my first sorry attempt at an outfit of the day post…glad it just about ended there!

Since this past year has not only been about a huge move but a new marriage, the Aslan's learned a little thing about compromise.

How about the big blizzard "Nemo" last year. So much snow even New York shut down. Glad we made history.

I got into the swing of DIY with a Mason Jar Terrarium, Pallet Shelf, and Monogram Wreath.

How about that time I signed up for a half marathon and actually completed it! Definitely a monumental growth around these parts!

And have you checked out our new series Cheers not Jeers
It's a ink up spreading positivity around the blog world. It's a whole day devoted to celebrating your favorite bloggers.
Speaking of Cheers not Jeers, for everyone who participates in the link up this week will be entered to win our "In post ad[venture]" ad to run through the month of December. Free advertising sounds great this holiday season don't you agree?
_________________________________________________________________________________

Can't wait to see you Wednesday and thanks again for all of the support this past year, yes mom that means you!
