Cheers not Jeers Episode 23

Meet Katie from A Beautiful Adventure. I had the privilege of meeting this wonderful gal last week when I got to jump in on the April session of Happy Hour Hangout. Oh I cannont tell you how good for my soul that hangout it. We talked so much about being a true blogger and Katie was one of the women who confessed she struggles with keeping up with her voice, just like many of us. I just HAVE to show you Katie's post from yesterday. She titled it "Too Much", but it was just the words I needed to hear as I laid in bed last night. It's about loving you for YOU and who doesn't need more of that in this world? Oh and she has just about THE best love story I have come across in a long time. Be sure to drop by and meet this new friend of mine. I promise you won't be sorry!

As bloggers, more importantly as women, it is often easy to get caught up in the strains and drains of life. Lets face it, life can just flat out SUCK at times. And I don't know about you, but I don't know anyone who doesn't love a sweet compliment or a simple thumbs up thrown their way. As motivation to spur a little female bonding around the "interwebs" I introduce to you this weekly link up "Cheers not Jeers"

This is your chance to build up some of your favorite women and showcase their talent through your blog and spread a little sisterly love.
How it works:
  • Every Wednesday join in the link up by including "Cheers" about your favorite bloggers. These are bloggers who spur your creativity, touch your heart, or keep you sane laughing.
  • Post a small shout out or devoted post to your blogger loves, creating more community between each other, while posting a link to their blog in your post so others many be inspired.
  • After linking up, find a new face, visit a new blog, introduce yourself and send them a "cheer"
Highly Encouraged:
There are no specific "rules" about following certain individuals in the link up, but just strongly encouraging women to seek out one another and offering praise instead of the negativity we can often see floating around the world wide web. I will personally visit each blog in the link up to see what an awesome impact this is making.

Our star of the day!

Frieaster

4.21.2014

As I sit and write this post I am overcome with emotions of thanks, joy, peace and mostly a heart full of gratitude.

As we celebrated the resurrection of our Savior, I could not have felt more at home without being "home". Everything was absolutely perfect. The dinner was delicious, as it was prepared by an actual chef…yes my friends are awesome. Rosemary lamb, and fingerling potatoes with roasted brussel sprouts.  Corn Hole "Civil War" was without a doubt the entertainment of the evening. All participants had their own version on the rules. Aka North Vs South. Sweet tea and sangria were flowing while we watched the little ones run around the back yard and giggle with innocent laughter. And the cheesecake…oh my YUM. I just had to eat two slices to prove to myself it was simply the best cheesecake I have ever tasted.
But most importantly it was about the fellowship with some of the most tender hearted people I've been graced with.

It makes me want to cry thinking of the kindness in these peoples hearts. Seriously, I wish I could share them with you. They would drop anything in a heartbeat for us with nothing but servant hearts and no further requests or favors. Sound familiar? Yes, it sounds like family.

It came to my realization, well with a little help of a cute and catchy phrase, but these people are our New York family. Family doesn't have to possess the same DNA or quirks, family are those who invite you into their home, and hearts.
So, so thankful for this years Frieaster…it was as perfect as any Easter could be.

1 Peter 1:3
Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! In his great mercy he has given us new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead... (NIV)

Catch up with one of the sweetest bloggers!

Madi has been a blogging friend since the very beginning when I started this space. If she lived anywhere close, I know we would would be the best of friends. But since she lives in Arkansas, we just have to dream. Madi and her new hubby just bought their first house! I'm living vicariously through them as we are no longer house hunting. I get so excited each time Madi has a house post, even if it's not always roses and butterflies. I have loved getting to see Madi's blog grow and she is definitely a loyal blog friend, as I'm sure she would be in real life! Madi is also starting her own adventure in the bakery world. I'm SO excited to support and see what creations she makes!

Need

4.15.2014

I need sunshine
I need fresh air and spaces to roam
I need dreams
I need time
I need God
I need family
I need friends
I need fellowship
I need music, as it soothes the soul

I have memories that will last a life time
I have an aching heart from saying goodbye
I have urges and dreams to conquer the world
I have a sun kissed tan that I will hate to see go
I have hopes to be home soon
I have the itch to travel
I have the want to love
I have a heavy heart that feels like something is missing

Each summer when I was young I would go to camp for a week. Each day was packed tight with activities, friends, fellowship, outdoors and late nights. At the end of the week we would be exhausted, thinking we were ready to come home. When we would return home, the house was a little too quiet, our schedules were a little too still. I remember feeling lonely and my heart aching for the friendships I had strengthened over the week as I spent every waking and sleeping hour with these people.
My friend and I could just say "camp feeling" and we both knew what each other was saying.

This past week was exactly what I needed but it left an empty space that is too quiet, too still and without my loved ones. As I know this feeling will pass, I reflect on all of the love that Joe and I have in our lives and I am so thankful. So thankful that it hurts…do you know what I mean? The it hurts, throat closing up trying to prevent tears hurt.
I miss home more than ever, but so thankful for the time we were able to spend with them this week.

Through Sickness and Health

4.11.2014

I can honestly say I was in the presence of the most patient woman in the world.
This past weekend while waiting to board the plane Texas bound, I was taken aback by the most selfless woman I have observed. (Let's be real, I was creeping hardcore!)

This woman was in her mid 70's and accompanied by her elderly husband who was brought to the terminal via wheelchair. As I'm diagnosing this man (nurse thing), it's obvious that he suffers from extreme demtnia.
As a bystander, I thought the man's repeated questions were painfully cute, but heart breaking at the same time. His short term memory lasted maybe 4 minutes before he would begin his series of questions over and over again. The man would ask where they were, what they were doing and when he would be leaving?

Never once did the wife lose her patience, or have a harsh tone with her husband.
After each question she would lovingly reply with the same answer as if this was his first time asking what flight they were catching. As a nosy  bystander I now know they were traveling to Seattle by way of Minneapolis. I know that his granddaughter is often his favorite person in his life and he was absolutely over the moon each time he was told he would be seeing her during their travels.

There were moments where you could hear the pain behind the husbands voice when he would realize this wasn't his first series of questions. He would then sit back and say "I'll just sit here and keep quiet". His wife never discouraged him from asking his questions, or talking all together. Instead she recalled the dinner party they had attended the evening prior and spoke of memories from the good 'ol days. She had nothing but grace in her voice.

I tried to put myself in her shoes and I couldn't imagine her daily routine and how it would be to see your strong, intelligent husband almost become infantile.
I know that God would never give me anything I couldn't handle, but I'm thankful for this woman who almost brought me to tears right there in the airport terminal.
You could see other passengers around us feel her endless patience; as they would observe with sympathetic eyes and often offer to help with any needs.

I can only hope that I am that wife for my husband. He deserves nothing less than my grace at all times, because today he is strong, intelligent and has his memory. I don't want to take any of those moments of health for granted. After all I vowed through sickness and health.

Have you seen my newest adventure?

Cheers not Jeers Episode 20
I can't believe we have linked up and spread cheer for the past 20 weeks. A huge thank you to all supporters who have helped with this cause. Let's keep going!

This week I want to introduce you to this blog's most faithful participant in Cheers Not Jeers! Each week she links up with us to help spread joy and positivity in the blogging world.
Meet Anne from "Love the Here and Now".
As a fellow Upstate New Yorker, Anne is excited about the warmer temperatures here in the North East. I am such a fan of Anne because she supports this link up like nobody's business and I'm SO thankful for that!
She blogs about why she is thankful for blogging. And a VERY cute DIY mason jar tutorial, who doesn't like mason jars? Be sure to stop by her blog and give her Cheers not Jeers!
Love the Here and Now
Stop by and say hi to Anne!

How I'll survive if I'm the next Castaway

4.03.2014

Living in the North East has totally thrown me out of my packing element. Because I am still wearing a winter coat, as my parents are sitting on their patio in 80 degree weather, and I'm expected to be in a swimsuit all next week while relaxing on the beach, I am suddenly out of my element.
Sorry for the lengthly run on. I'm a science nerd remember?

So as I sit here and stare at my suitcase I just have to laugh. At first glance someone may think I was moving again.
No, not moving, just prepared for Fall, Winter, Spring and Summer.
It also doesn't help that I tend always overpack as if I'll be the next Castaway and by some miracle my luggage gets to stay with me.

Source
To get an insight on the mass amount of things I just MUST bring, I'll give you the itinerary of my trip.
  • Fly from New York to Texas.
New York, approximately 31 degrees at time of departure. Texas, at time of arrival 68 degrees.
Do you see my dilemma? Winter coat to the airport then quick change into tank and shorts? Oi!
  • Spend 4 days in Dallas with the family.
Average temperature while home 66 degrees to 81 degrees. HALLELUJAH!
Wardrobe includes: jeans, as these legs have not seen a ray of Vitamin D since last summer. Also included are running shorts, t-shirts, tanks, long sleeves throw in my Northface just in case, sandals, wedges and Toms.
  • Head out to South Padre Island for beach week and wedding weekend!!
Average temperature while gloriously laying on the beach 72 degrees to 76 degrees.
Wardrobe includes: swim suits, 5 to be exact even though I have only 3 beach day…options people. Cover-ups, shorts, tanks, flip flops, sun dresses, bridesmaid dress and mass amounts of sunscreen because of previously said white legs.
  • Fly from Padre to New York
Average temperature when landing in Albany, 41 degrees. Time to bust out the North face, and dust the sand off my sandals. Back to reality, back to work and back to my life in the North East.

Now can you only imagine how terrified I am that my luggage is basically guaranteed to be over the 50 pound limit. Now of course all items listed were mostly clothing. As any functioning woman I will also have a beauty supplies and undergarments to clothe a country. Plus sunglasses, purses galore and my camera of course.

Now if you're lucky, I'll bring you back a souvenir…
What are your packing must haves?

Have you met my newest adventure?

Cheers not Jeers Episode 19

Princess Burlap

Drumroll please….may I introduce you to a blog that you will want to just read for hours upon hours. Princess Burlap in all of her royal glory is a simply beautiful blog…yeah you heard me. Dayna's penmanship is novel worthy, her blog is real and raw which is beautiful in itself. Plus she is a newlywed with a wedding out of a fairy tale…one word BEAUTIFUL! Read along as she talks about life's hardship as her husband lives with autism. I am constantly mesmerized by her lyrical mastery when she can make such simple topics turn into chapters of a non-fiction novel I can't put down. Heres an example with a look into her fertility struggles
